ABOUT NELSON
Nelson Godfrey is a Tanzanian documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and editor whose work focuses on cultural heritage, conservation, and the human connection to the natural world. Since 2021, he has been dedicated to crafting ethical and visually compelling stories across Africa, with a strong emphasis on respectful collaboration with Indigenous communities and authentic storytelling.
He has worked as an expedition storyteller with The Wilderness Project, documenting major African freshwater systems across Angola, Tanzania, and Botswana, where he combined scientific research with cultural narratives to highlight environmental conservation. Nelson also serves as a film mentor and editor with the African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS), empowering local communities to develop and share their own stories through film.
In Tanzania, Nelson has contributed to high-altitude productions on Mount Kilimanjaro, creating impactful visual stories for organizations such as My Impossible and Accelerate Change. His experience also includes working as a film editor at Merit Concept, where he contributed to award-winning tourism documentaries and major industry campaigns.
