Thinking of capturing those epic aerial shots over the Serengeti or Kilimanjaro? Not so fast! Flying a drone in Tanzania’s national parks isn’t allowed by default. Here's what travelers need to know:
Strict Prohibition Without Permits
Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) officially prohibits drone use in parks for security, wildlife protection, and visitor experience reasons. However, exceptions can be made if you have the required permits.
The Required Permits (Yes, Even for Tourists)
To legally fly a drone in Tanzania’s national parks, whether for leisure or filming, you must secure permits from multiple authorities:
Tanzania Film Board
Ministry of Defence
Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA)
Conservation Commissioner of TANAPAÂ
All applications go through the Conservation Commissioner, and you must attach copies of authorizations from the other three bodies.
